Biographical Information

I am a writer with years of experience teaching writing, both in the classroom and online. My particular passion is working one-on-one with students in the Writing Center, where I meet individuals with widely differing skill levels who are writing across the disciplines. I am fluent in both written and oral Spanish, which has helped me understand the patterns of errors of ESL students.

I have a special interest in working with scientists to help them describe their work, not only to their colleagues, but also to non-scientists. My own master’s thesis was on the descriptive language in Darwin’s Voyage of the Beagle, and it was in reading the 19th-century descriptive scientists who wrote for a public much broader than their peers that I learned to write with precision and to approach my own essays as experiments.
